MUSICABILITY: Interactive Music Programme for Adults with Disabilities

Mauao Performing Arts Centre and TOTARA ST, in partnership with Creative Bay of Plenty, provides a weekly interactive musical programme for adults with disabilities.  Any person with a disability (i.e. autism, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, physical disability, etc.) above the age of 18 may attend free of charge.

Beginning 12 June, the sessions are held Tuesdays at 1pm at TOTARA ST (11 Totara Street, Mt Maunganui). Activities include interactive sing-a-longs, talent sharing, hand drumming, poetry readings, musical demonstrations, and karaoke and dance sessions. Guest musicians will also be invited to perform.

The sessions are led by Mauao Performing Arts tutor Melissa Cox. A former marketing and advocacy specialist for a large USA-based disability non-profit, Melissa brings her prior experience to this interactive and musically therapeutic programme.

If you are a caregiver or a staff member of a disability organization, contact Melissa at 027 834 4349 or Ross at 0800 11 22 41 to enquire about getting involved in this wonderful programme!

Funding for this programme is provided by Creative Bay of Plenty.  We are seeking more funding to keep this worthy programme going beyond 2018. If your company or organization would like to contribute, please contact Ross on 0800 11 22 41.
