Curtis Edwards

Born in Hamilton, New Zealand, Curtis Edwards began drumming at eight under the guidance of his musician father and joined his first band at fourteen.

He honed his skills at the Percussion Institute of Technology (PIT) in Los Angeles, graduating with honors. Curtis has performed extensively in New Zealand and internationally, enjoying a wide variety of musical styles including rock, jazz, blues, Latin, funk, pop, big band, and fusion.

Curtis adopts a holistic teaching approach, focusing on building a drummer’s foundational skills and versatility. He believes that drummers not only keep time but also craft the rhythmic backbone that drives the music. Now based in Tauranga Otamoatai and active in the Bay of Plenty music scene, Curtis is passionate about mentoring young drummers. He encourages the exploration of effective practice routines and helps students develop their unique musical voice, ensuring a rewarding and productive learning experience for both teacher and student.
